To enrich the lives and positively affect the futures of children and youth across Greater New Haven's varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, through a program that incorporates life skills curriculum and academic supports, and promotes both character building and the health benefits of participation in athletics through tennis.
Tennis for Girls Only is a program to introduce girls to the game of tennis, give them a safe place to socialize, and provide them with positive role models. In addition to tennis instruction, the program includes life-skills mentoring, academic tutoring, and an opportunity to engage with prominent women in the community through the guest speaker program
Tennis in the Neighborhood was a highly successful 3-week pilot program in August in which children from the Dixwell and Newhallville neighborhoods were bused to tennis courts in Hamden where they received Life Skills mentoring and tennis instruction. The program culminated with a Family Day during the New Haven Open at Yale which included a pizza & ice cream lunch, tickets to the afternoon quarter-final matches, and a clinic at Yale University’s Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
